October 7, 2024
Celebrate the talent of Jackson County’s young vocalists as Jackson College presents the High School Choral Invitational Festival on Sunday, Oct. 20. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall at the Potter Center on Jackson College’s main campus.
This exciting event showcases three outstanding choral groups from local high schools, offering the community a chance to experience the impressive musical talents of the area’s youth. The participating ensembles include the Napoleon High School Concert Choir, under the director of Mr. Trevor Trudeau, and the Lumen Christi High School A Cappella Choir, under the direction of Mr. Justin Marcero, and Vocal Point, Jackson College’s premier choir, under the direction of Dr. Richard Hintze. Vocal Point’s performance will include:
- “I Will Arise and Go” (Irish folk song arrangement)
- “Venite Exultemus Domino” (Latin for Let us Praise the Lord) by Jan Sweelinck, a prominent composer in the transition from the Renaissance period to the Baroque period
- “Walk Down That Lonesome Road” (folk song written by James Taylor)
- “Courage to Shine” (upbeat message for our day)
- “A Million Dreams” (combined choirs’ piece from the movie “The Greatest Showman”)
The event is free and open to the public, offering a wonderful opportunity for families, music enthusiasts, and community members to support local students and enjoy an afternoon of live music.
